La Marina / Costa Blanca Sud
La Marina
La Marina is a small coastal village which enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with cool sea breezes in summer and protection by surrounding mountains against the cold north winds in winter. The area averages nearly 3,000 hours of sunshine each year.
La Marina is basically split into two distinct parts, the old coastal town and beach area with urbanisation La Marina.
The coastal part of the town has some fantastic sandy beaches, which even in the peak season are so big that they never get packed, and you can always find a spot away from the crowds to enjoy the sunny weather.
There is a large urbanisation situated on the hills with many shops, bars, restaurants and a municipal swimming pool, amongst other facilities.
The village has a range of shops, bars, banks etc. and has a regular bus service north and south along the coast.
Nature
The natural environment combines great expanses of beach with spectacular rolling dunes; the conditions are perfect for the abundance of rare flora and fauna, which makes it an area of a nature lovers’ paradise. Nearby there is a nature reserve where you can see flamingos in their natural habitat. Also just north of La Marina are lots of salt lakes such as Salinas del Brac del Port which create a very healthy atmosphere for people suffering from health problems such as allergies or arthritis.
Beaches
The sandy beach at La Marina stretches some 17 kilometres from Santa Pola to Torrevieja.
The main beach is La Marina beach, a beautiful and large beach of thin and golden sand. It is considered semi-urban as a small part of it has particular households behind it, but mostly there is a large pine wood. There is also a nautical station in order to practice water sports. It is a Blue Flag awarded beach.
Playa Del Pinet. It´s a quiet rural area just outside the village of La Marina which is typically Spanish. The beach is clean, the water clear and there is an endless walk for the restless on the golden sands if required.
Playa El Rebollo. Beautiful, cenic and clean beach. Miles of golden sand, clean water, great for couples families and groups.
Sports
You can rent bicycles, play mini-golf, take a diving course, walk across the dunes or just enjoy the local countryside and natural environment. Go for horse riding excursions in Dolores.
For those who love golf, La Escuera is strategically located. Only fifteen minutes away from La Escuera you will find the La Finca Golf Course with a new hotel and clubhouse where the Spanish Open is played.
Twenty-five minutes away you will find the La Marquesa Golf Course, and Villamartin which has an abundance of olive trees and bunkers making it a challenging course for all levels of ability.
To see
La Marina camping. Great resort with water park for kids. The campsite has an area of 70.000 m² with 430 plots and 90 bungalows.
Sand Dunes near the beach Del Pinet. Here you can stroll through the pine forests bordering sand dunes leading onto the long stretch of unspoilt coastline.
Las Salinas de Santa Pola. A lovely view driving along the motorway towards Santa Pola to see a huge amount of flamingoes and other birds. When the sun shines on the salt crystals the lakes take on a pink colour appearance.
A great day out can be had at the Rio Safari park, located near Elche. The park has a wide range of animals on display. Take with you eucalyptus leaves for giraffes and enjoy feeding them. Pick up one of the discount leaflets in town or any petrol station to make your entry cheaper.
Take a short car journey to the nearby cities of Torrevieja, Alicante, Elche and Murcia, where you can take a stroll in the historical and charming old towns, drive along rural roads, past oranges and lemon groves and a local artesan store where you will be able to pick up a traditional souvenir: hand-made jewellery, wine, ham and olive oil.
Eating out
In La Marina you can enjoy a choice of Spanish or international cuisine, have a glass of sangria whilst taking in some beautiful live Spanish music and watch the beautiful sunsets.
The Grill House (Av. de Londres, la Marina Urbanisation) offers you a good steak, ribs and bbq chicken and a great service.
La Cuisine Restaurant (19 Avenida de Londres, Urb. La Marina, 03177 San Fulgencio) - fantastic French food at reasonable prices.
For a special dining experience book Restaurante El Fronton (camino del Rebollo)
Good traditional paella with chicken and rabbit can enjoy in Restaurante Candela (cami dels Ruices). What can be better than lunch just by the sea?
To get there
Distance from Alicante airport to La Marina is only 27 km using the main coastal road N-332. You can take a bus Costa Azul directly from the airport to the old town of La Marina.
